In 1998, Bernard Perbal participated to the creation of the 515 Inserm Unit. It was agreed that Y.Le Bouc would be the head of this unit if it was created from the previous unit headed by M. Binoux. Y.Le Bouc was very enthusiastic about B. Perbal’s venue as it would bring a new and promissing theme to the unit . For this purpose, B.Perbal wrote a research program which was added to the programm presented by Y. Le Bouc. This scientific project has been reviewed by a committee of scientific specialists at the INSERM. They voted in favor of the unit creation. At that time (february 1998), B.Perbal was heading a group composed of 2 senior researchers and 5 students. On february 26th, the scientific council of the new unit recognized the inclusion of B. Perbal’s group and allowed him a part of the Inserm grant for his installation. The organigram which was established at that time clearly mentioned the research themes and composition of B. Perbal’s team in the new unit.
