Letter sent in february 1998 by Y.Le Bouc to the Director of the INSERM Institute at that time : translation from the second paragraph to the end of the letter (part regarding the NOV project)
A second team with which we have had relationships wishes to join our unit. This team is directed by Pr Bernard Perbal (Paris 7) includes two CNRS senior scientists, Mrs Cécile Martinerie and Mrs Maryvonne Laurent. For several years, members of this team have been working on a topic that they have initiated and designated « the NOV gene and the NOV protein. » which represents « an IGFBP related peptide ».
The interactions between our two fields are not only extremely benefic for our two groups, but happen to occur at a very timely period considering the international competition.
NOV shares many analogies with other IGFBPs that we have been studying for many years based on structural and functional aspects. One can see a synergistic aspect in our research themes since these different systems- IGF/IGFBP/NOV- physiologically affects the same tissues, kidney, muscle, central nervous system and adrenal and they are also involved in the same tumoral pathologies - Wilm’s tumor in particular-.
Therefore, there is a complementarity and a potentiation of our fundamental, physiopathological and clinical research and this is the reason why we would like to welcome Bernard Perbal ‘s group.
As you will understand, the scientific interest and the international competition require that our reunion takes place as fast as possible.
On the strategic level, for the re-creation of Unit 142, it would be also important for us that these researchers are assigned to the Unit before committee examination performs its site visit.
