When Bernard Perbal left the Curie Institute in 1998, Cécile Martinerie and Maryvonne Laurent could have decided to stay at the Curie Institute and, as senior scientits, could have asked to start a new group. In that case; they perfectly knew that they would have had to propose a new research program, as Bernard Perbal, beeing the director of the laboratory was leaving with his research projects, his grants, his equipment and his students. At that time, C.Martinerie had been in his group for 16 years, M. laurent for 5 years. Actually, they specifically wrote an official letter to the direction of the CNRS in which they asked to follow B.Perbal at the St Antoine Hospital to continue the work that they were performing under his direction at the Curie Institute. Then, - why did they asked 1 year later to leave B.Perbal group ? - why, in this operation, did they find Le Boucs support ? - why could they keep on running the exact same research project in Le Boucs unit and pursue the same experiments as those they were performing in B.Perbals group ? - why did the INSERM and the CNRS let this going on and on without taking in account any of the numerous documents that we were sending to them ? B.Perbal wrote a letter to Y.Le Bouc on october 9th, 1999, after he happened to know by a phone call from Y.Le Bouc that C.Martinerie and M.Laurent wanted to leave his group and join Le Boucs group. In this letter, B.Perbal summarized the entire programm of his laboratory since 1983 when he came back from UCLA. He gave to Y.Le Bouc, who had neither expertise nor knowledge on NOV, all the elements showing his personal involvment and the successive steps in his research program. At that time, B.Perbal thought he could rely on Le Boucs scientific integrity and on his support to convince C.Martinerie and M.Laurent that : - what they were doing was not ethical - they could change group but should find themselves an original research project which was not the continuation of what they were doing in B.Perbals laboratory. B. Perbal even proposed to Le Bouc that the 2 scientists, before leaving and finding an original program on their own, finish the work that had been initiated and which was still running. By reading carefully the abovementioned letter, the readers will be able to better understand the whole story that is documented on this web site. All this happened 4 years ago. Nothing yet has been done to stop these unethical facts and behavior and the scientific misconduct which is still occuring since then. |
